The Beer Engine Skipton – Micropub Branding Success Story by J Mitchell Design
Side hustle alert 🍻
I’ve been working with the team at The Beer Engine, a small independent pub in Skipton, North Yorkshire, for a while now. Back in 2022, they came to me for a full rebrand—logo, identity, signage, and everything in between. Since then, it’s been one CAMRA award after another and a real joy to be part of their journey.
The Beer Engine is a proper cask and craft ale house—tiny, independent, tucked down a backstreet near the canal, and full of personality. Six hand-pulls, craft keg lines, refrigerated cans and bottles, and a warm welcome. It’s the kind of place that becomes a local favourite—and CAMRA agrees.
“We won Branch Pub of the Season in Winter 2021/2022, then Branch Pub of the Year in March, and to our complete surprise we went on to be named Yorkshire Pub of the Year 2023,” says Adam, co-owner. “It’s all escalated quickly!”

Here’s what they’ve won since the rebrand:
- 10 consecutive years in The Good Beer Guide
- 2021/2022 Pub of the Season
- 2023 CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year
- 2023 CAMRA Yorkshire Pub of the Year
- 2023 CAMRA Runner-Up National Pub of the Year
- 2024 CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year
- 2024 CAMRA Joint Yorkshire Pub of the Year
- 2025 CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year

Brand On Tour
The Beer Engine logo I designed has now made its way around the world—from Venice to Tokyo to Toronto. From hoodies behind the bar in Skipton to tees in front of the CN Tower, it’s a great reminder that strong branding isn’t just about signage—it becomes part of your story, your merch, and your community.
