Enjoying the breathtaking views of Mount Fuji during cherry blossom season in Japan—an inspiring backdrop for both travel and creativity.
As a freelance fashion designer, one of the most rewarding aspects of my career is the flexibility it offers. For me, the ability to travel while working is a game changer. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of exploring incredible places like Mexico, Europe, Japan, and South Korea. The chance to experience new cultures and environments not only fuels my creativity but has also become a significant part of my lifestyle. 🌍✈️
Travel as a Source of Inspiration
One of the things that sets freelance fashion design apart from full-time roles is the freedom to draw inspiration from wherever I am. Travel brings a new perspective, which is invaluable when developing new collections or collaborating with clients. Whether I’m hiking in the hills of Mexico, exploring the street culture of Europe, or standing in awe of Mount Fuji in Japan (as seen in the photo), the experiences shape my designs in ways that wouldn’t be possible in a typical office environment.
In fact, many of my recent projects were influenced by the vibrant streetwear I saw in Europe, the rich colour palettes of Japanese gardens, and the creative spirit I felt walking through cities like Mexico City and Seoul. Travel isn’t just a break from work—it’s an essential part of the design process.
The Reality of Business Travel
Before I ventured into freelancing, I spent years working in full-time roles where business travel was a regular requirement. While I loved the opportunity to visit new places, the rigid schedules, constant pressure, and jet lag often added stress to the experience. The long flights and time zone changes sometimes felt more like a burden than a benefit.
Freelancing changed that. Now, I’m in control of my travel schedule, allowing me to travel when I choose, and for as long as I need. The flexibility means I can explore new places without the pressure of fitting everything into a business agenda. It’s about balancing work with adventure, and I truly believe that this lifestyle fuels my creativity and passion for fashion design.
